Hobart Whisky 'A Southern Gentleman' Whisky in Isolation 54.5%abv 30ml
Whisky in Isolation is a great independent bottler based in Victoria that tries to do things a bit differently and experiment with different cask types. Their tasting notes for this one - are Creme brulee on the nose and Creme Anglais on the finish - I speak a bit of French and that basically means this tastes like custard. I love custard.
Fully matured in a small format, high quality ex-Tennessee Whiskey Cask, previously containing Jack Daniels Single Barrel Select, this is the distillery's first single cask Tennessee whiskey release with less than 40 bottles produced.
Distillery Tasting Notes
Nose: Clean and precise with a pleasant blend of burnt caramel/toffee and cereal sweetness. There is a light spice note that adds complexity to the nose, and a subtle hint of cigar box that gives it a touch of smokiness.
Palate: Silky with nutty oils and rich butterscotch sauce notes. The cereal sweetness is more prominent, balanced by a subtle note of burnt biscuit crumb. The light spice from the nose carries through to the palate, providing a gentle warmth that lingers in the finish.
Finish: Long and satisfying, leaving a pleasant aftertaste of more burnt caramel/toffee and light spice
Whisky in Isolation Notes
Nose: Creme brulee, hazlenuts, freshly sharpened pencils.
Palate: Oily mouthful, packed with charred caramel, rich toffee and digestive biscuits.
Finish: Caramelised oranges drizzled with creme anglaise.
