Aged in a refill hogshead for 21 years this is a lovely distillate forward old-school dram - waxy and fruity. Inchgower output is 99% used for Diageo blends Bells and Johnnie Walker so its not so easy to find as a single malt. Inchgower is quite different to other Speyside malts - Inchgower means 'Field of the river' and is located near where the river Lossie meets the sea so it has some coastal maritime characteristics. Whiskies that have been released as official bottlings such as the Flora and Fauna have been quite light, herbal and grassy which don't actually match the usual distillery profile that blenders from Bells and Johnnie Walker desire - which is fruity and salted caramel notes. This cask is quite waxy with apple notes so if this bottle was relabelled Clynelish, few would blink, many would rave about it and it would sell out at almost double the price. Good cask selection from The Whisky Sponge / Decadent Drinks.
