Old Orkney 21y/o Decadent Drinks 52.9%ABV 15ml / 30ml

This is a marriage of two casks - a 25 year old Bodega Sherry Cask and a 21 year old Refill Hogshead. This is a proper maritime coastal malt - old school Highland Park - a bit dirty and complex, delicate wafts of smoke. Best Orkney yet from Decadent Drinks / Whisky Sponge. Its in the same heavy old cognac style bottle that the Springbanks and high age statement Whiskyland bottles come in, so possibly they put the most special whiskies in this bottle type. Its not a single cask but a marriage of two casks. One was a 25 year old Highland Park Bodega Sherry cask (old solera cask used for aging Sherry as opposed to casks seasoned with sherry) and a refill hogshead. Usually well matured bodega casks go for really big bucks so maybe something had gone wrong maybe the old sherry cask was a bit too active and the whisky had fallen to low 40's or even below 40%ABV (meaning it is no longer whisky) or maybe the Bodega cask had leaked and there was only 15 litres left in the cask. Whatever the reason the end result is great and probably superior to the parts that make it up.
