Tullibardine 32y/o 1989 East Village Whisky Company 49.2%ABV 30ml

One for whisky nerds. A complex dram with some earthy, apricot, pepper, nutty, savoury and cereal notes. Tullibardine is not on my list of favourite distilleries, but you should never write off a distillery as sometimes magic happens when the right cask is given the right amount of time.

East Village Whisky Company is run by Peter Ostendorf (Ostendorf means 'East Village' in German) who in the past selected some of the best whiskies for the Whisky Agency - sometimes legendary joint bottlings under the name Pangalactic Gargle Blasters - in honour of the best drink in the universe according to the book the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. His whisky labels always have a dodgy retro sci-fi theme. He picks out really interesting and challenging whiskies - never easy to forget. Often he selects amazing casks from less fashionable distilleries like this one or the amazing Old Rhosdhu. Possibly the best independent bottler at the moment for true whisky nerds but doesn't release too many whiskies (48 bottles so far) and all his bottles sell out in Germany so it is off the radar of most whisky fans.
