Glenfarclas 1991 The Family Casks (S21) #5676 55.3%abv 30ml

This 29-30 year old cask is a bit special - just look at the colour of this dark lusty beauty! I'm not a big fan of Glenfarclas' core range but they have picked some legendary casks for their family cask releases.

The first Glenfarclas family casks I tried 15 years ago blew me away - mostly at two ends of the spectrum - first fill sherry and 4th fill casks, likewise the Glendronach single casks released during the Billy Walker era - these bottles converted me to being a lover of sherried whisky. As these have grown in popularity and sky-rocketed in price, the quality has gone down - just because it comes in a family cask wooden box no longer guarantees its mind blowing whisky. However, they still can hit the ball out of the park and this one delivers. It has everything you want from an aged sherry butt - dense layers of berries, almonds, chocolate, toffee, sweet and sour pork, leather, tobacco, coffee, plums.
