Compass Box LMDW Artist #11 Pentalogy Generosity Blended Grain Whisky 51.9%ABV 30ml
Compass Box LMDW Artist #11 Pentalogy Generosity Blended Grain Whisky 51.9%ABV 30ml
This is a blended grain whisky containing no single malts so its a bit different. Serge Valentin gives this a very low score see below and this is certainly a divisive whisky. The 5 whiskies in this Pentalogy Series are all different styles and this one is at one end of the spectrum - it will delight and surprise some, whereas others will be perplexed and mutter WTF as it is sweeter and lighter than what they are used to.
Part of LMDW ARTIST #11 - a range of whiskies released annually adorned with commissioned artworks and containing the finest whiskies. The artworks adorning the five bottles in this set were created by surrealist artist Charlotte Massip. She draws inspiration from the anatomic drawings of Vesalius, the machines of Leonardo da Vinci, and Dürer’s engravings.
This set is called Pentalogy was the first to be exclusively blends comprising of blended whisky, blended grain and blended malts to showcase different styles of blends. The 5 blends are called - Confidence, Fortitude, Generosity, Wisdom and Wonder.
This release is called Generosity - Limited Edition of 630 bottles
Produced from two Lowland single grains, on the nose, Generosity reveals enthralling medicinal, fruity, herbaceous, cereal and spicy notes. Compass Box 'Generosity' (51.9%, LMDW, blended grain, Artist #11 Pentalogy, 630 bottles) Two stars
I mean, the label is stunning, but-they-have-blended-grain-whiskies! Remember grain is malt for vegans, as we sometimes say. Nothing against vegans, no need to add. Colour: light gold. Nose: touches of varnish, marshmallows, vodka, wiper fluid and that's it. Maize bread. With water: chamomile tea, sugarcane syrup, more sweet corn. Mouth (neat): no, sweet, thin, sugary. Not sure Haig Club is not bigger. With water: saccharose and stewed beets. Finish: short and ultra-thin. Comments: sure it is eminently drinkable and even kind of good, but so, our dearest friends in Paris and London decided to call this bottle 'Generosity'? Was it a late-Friday Zoom meeting? Not for 'Malt Maniacs', in any case, we pass this time, let's just remember that the others in this series are pretty splendid...
