Daftmill 15y/o 2006 Cask Strength 55.7%ABV 15ml /30ml

This was the first 15 year old age statement whisky from Daftmill and caused a frenzy selling out immediately with bottles turning up at auctions the next week and going for silly prices. How has a new distillery got such a cult following so quickly - firstly they waited until the whisky was nearly 13 years old when they released their first whisky at cask strength, natural colour, un chill-filtered using local barley in 2018. Fruity floral and possibly the best first release by any distillery ever - instant hype overload and they made very small amounts of whisky so the demand was crazy. Things have settled down a little and they are producing more casks but you won't see many bottles in Australia as it still sells out in the UK despite costing several times more than other whiskies.

Daftmill is a farm distillery, owned and run by the Cuthbert family, who grow all of the barley used in their whisky on-site. The distillery is only operational during the farm's quiet periods in mid-summer and mid-winter, sometimes producing as few as 100 casks per year. The distillery was granted its license in 2005, but not in a hurry to rush out their product, it was 2018 before their inaugural release. This patience and dedication to their craft has won the distillery an army of passionate fans, among collectors and connoisseurs alike.

The barley for this Daftmill was harvested from the farm's Dam Park and Curling Pond fields on 31st August 2004. This was some of the last barley to the malted in Fife by Robert Kilgour & Co before they closed. The spirit was filled into twenty-eight bourbon casks in 2006, matured for 15 years and bottled at cask strength in 2022.
