Fleurieu 'The Hunting of the Snark' 47%abv 30ml / 50ml

The Judges say…
“Peanut brittle on the nose. Body is a caramel oil slick, with a meaty vegetable smoke that lingers long into the soft herbal smoke. Fruity, floral, with lovely aromatics. Very well matured. Great balance between spirit and cask. The soft smoke character hums along as the palate develops. Estery, floral through the finish…”

My guess is these judging notes have to be Julian White from Whisky and Alement - he loves mentioning Peanut Brittle and musk sticks in tasting notes.

This peated whisky was distilled at Fleurieu Distillery in South Australia. It was matured in second fill Apera casks which really lets the peated spirit shine. One of only 520 bottles.

I think this is a great whisky and would not guess it was Australian. It tastes like a mix of 18 year old AnNcoc and a some great old Ardmore Indie bottles  - so there is a real well-aged highland peated whisky theme - so sweeter vegetal and floral peat not salty and medicinal Islay style- tastes like a camping trip to the highlands - unsalted trail mix, heather honey, burnt marshmallows, woolly jumper infused with campfire smoke.
