This years 25y/o cask strength Laphroaig is more than 6% less ABV than last years which was also a more modern style Laphroaig, smokier, more punchy and youthful tasting. Despite the lower ABV this years is more elegant, richer and more complex than last years so clearly a more active casks appear to have been used in this years edition. Also despite the higher abv the mouthfeel was a bit thinner in the 2022 edition - this new release is more oily and almost creamy mouthfeel. I nearly didn't get this as the ABV was low and I thought it wasn't cask strength but I was offered a Burns Night promotion so grabbed a bottle - so glad I did - exceptional whisky.
