Rosebank 15y/o 1990 The McGibbons Provenance Summer Distillation 46%ABV 15ml / 30ml
An Indie bottling of Rosebank from 2005. At auction these are going for around $700. However, in effect to me this tasted like a $125 whisky at best and the elevated price is based on the history of the whisky. Rosebank, Port Ellen and Brora have been resurrected but its going to be a few years until they have 15 year old malts available again. The trouble with dead distilleries is that people saved exceptional casks and the rest were sent off to blends - so we have 20+ year old malts that are exceptional and people wonder how crazy they were to close these distilleries. This 15 year old is quite close to standard Rosebank - its not from some magical casks like the 25year old Diageo Special Release which tastes more like a great old elegant and waxy Clynelish. If you are a Lowland whisky or dead distillery nerd and want to try some liquid history then give it a try.
