Strathmill 14y/o 'Back Home Almost' The Whisky Barrel 61%Abv 30ml

The Whisky Barrel is a Scottish online retailer and bottler. It has been accumulating one of the largest private collections of maturing casks since 2007 some from brokers but in the past decade mostly casks they have filled with new make and are maturing in their warehouses so there will be a lot more bottles from the whisky barrel/TWB in the next few years. The space themed sets that they have been releasing in recent years has been very popular and highly collectable. This Strathmill is from the Apollo 10 Space series of bottles - this one has 'Snoopy' a lunar module that linked to 'Charlie Brown' close to the moon as a dress rehearsal to prepare for the first human moon landing. 

This whisky is very dark and powerful - there are lots of sherry bombs that taste like fortified sherry and often Strathmill distillate is not the most robust and gets a bit overwhelmed by the cask, so it would be easy to prejudge this one. This one is surprisingly multidimensional despite the colour and obvious cask influence, it has notes of fudge, fruitcake, spice, tobacco and rosewater.
